ALUMNI NEWS FROM THE 2018 ANTLER

Stewart Ackerly is now working as chief of staff to a Deputy United States Trade Representative who oversees foreign trade issues involving China, Africa, North America, and South America.    Ben Coerper’s Wild Harmony Farm in Rhode Island turned a profit this year, and Ben enjoys playing in a few bands, one called Los Dudarinos.  Mike Gengras took a leave of absence from North Yarmouth Academy in Maine to spend a year teaching abroad with his wife Cindy.  They ended up at The American International School in Vienna, where Ryan Carey and wife Amy are currently teaching.  Small world!  Rumor has it that Grant Carey has some pretty cool photos of powder skiing in the Austrian Alps this winter!  Since 2010, John Glidden has been running “Squam Brewing,” a small three-barrel brewery based in Holderness.  In addition to the tasty concoctions, the artwork on the cans depict beautiful scenes of Squam and the surrounding area.  Dalibor Hruska still has a military job in his home country, the Czech Republic, and his son Maxmilian is now 5 years old.  Ross Perrot took over as director of outdoor education at Telluride Mountain School this fall and was responsible for planning six different week-long trips for the various age groups at TMS.  This spring, Ross will also travel to Puerto Rico with 9th and 10th grade students to do hurricane relief work on a service learning trip. Many Deerwood friends have made it to Telluride to visit with Ross and Brittany, including Will BurkeJohn Williams and the Stockwell brothers, Henry and Hunt.  Philip Rynning-Nielsen traveled from his home in Norway this winter to visit Rudi Stern in France for a skiing vacation.  Wilfrido Sanchez Perez has been working each week to help those who suffered during the devastating earthquakes that shook his part of Mexico (Oaxaca) this past September.  Wilfrido’s home was a refuge for others who lost theirs, and he has been helping by distributing water, food, clothing and medicine, setting up first aid stations, and teaching children skills to handle emergency situations.

Donny and Sarah met at Ohio University.   3.  David Ghormley is a director at MFS investment management out of Boston, covering Indiana, and lives with his family in Westfield, IN.  David was very excited to announce the birth of a future Deerwood camper, William, last April.  4.  Andrew Pike’s Governor’s Academy hockey team scored a few third period goals to break open a close game and edge Jack Thomsen’s Phillips Academy team in February.  Andrew and Jack look forward to working on staff for the first time this summer as junior counselors.  5.  John Gallagher and his wife Mary, welcomed Molly Elizabeth on 9/21/17.  6.  Andrej Stybnar, wife Petra and children on vacation this winter;  7. Keagan Harder showed up on the sidelines at Tufts University this fall to cheer on his summer 2017 Ritz counselor, Henry Wilhelm, and his Middlebury College soccer team in the NESCAC championship game. 

John Williams became engaged to Kate Ferguson on top of The Grand Teton last year.  A small family wedding is planned for late March in Jackson, Wyoming.  Congratulations, John and Kate!
